About Me

Welcome! My name is Jessica D, I’m 32 years old and live in Northeastern Ohio. I live with my husband of over 8 years and our two female cats, Elena and Linnea and two male rats, Apollo and Ares. I own my own health consulting business, J. Dickey Health Consulting LLC . I am also a Strategic Partner with the American Red Cross. I teach First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training classes for them. I have a Bachelors and Master degree in Community Health Education from Kent State University.

Beginning in July 2011 for three and a half years, I wrote the weight loss surgery blog, Bariatric Beginnings. However in 2015 I decided to change the focus on my blog and move out of the community of weight loss surgery.

This blog is now about my life, my chronic illnesses, and hard past experiences. I may only be 32 years old but I’ve been though a lot, more than some people experience in whole life.

  1. Hi Jessica,

My name is Corey Stevens and I am working on my Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Akron. Toward this end I am writing my dissertation on bariatric patients. Someone recommended that I talk to you about your experiences (I’d be happy to tell you who in a more private communication). If you decided to take part in my study, we would sit down for about an hour at a time, date, and place that is convenient for you and I would ask you questions about your experience. I’ve been asking about the experience of obtaining surgery itself, other people’s responses to the decision to undergo surgery, and adjusting to the changes in your body. I’m happy to answer any questions about myself or my study. If you are interested please email me at ces88@zips.uakron.edu.

    Good luck on your Journey!
    Corey Stevens

  2. Hi

I was on the hunt for some information on bariatric surgery, bypass and gastric sleeve and found Journey of Jessica D.

I really like that you emphasis awareness and tangental areas related to obesity.

Actually, I just put together an infographic on the weight loss timeline of gastric sleeve surgery.

As someone who writes about bariatric surgery quite a bit I thought you may get a kick out of it :D

Let me know if you want to check it out.
